| It was a very wet night and when I looked out in the morning the clouds were right down to the loch so I decided to walk down the glen to Faindouran Lodge, have my breakfast there and consider the options. Having now completed the first of my targets (the 4000ft peaks) I was lacking the motivation to climb up into the mist and rain again!

| The tent on the other side was gone before me but I met a couple of other Challengers breaking camp at the Fords of Avon one of whom I watched crossing the 'ford' thigh deep in the icy fast moving water and I was quite happy that I had decided not to go that way. Glen Avon is a beautiful walk even though the low cloud and damp prevented any views of the hills but my stomach was telling me it was well past breakfast time when I reached the bothy and found John Hooper, the occupant of the other tent pitched at the end of Loch Avon, also preparing his breakfast.

| By the time I emerged from the bothy suitably fed and several cups of tea later the rain had nearly stopped but cloud levels stayed very low and there was no encouragement to climb Ben Avon, which had been my original plan, so I continued down Glen Avon on the gravel track, which is very pleasant and not too hard on the feet.

| A little further on I met up with Joy Thompson and walked with her until our ways parted at Inchrory. There are miles of new deer fence being erected around the glen presumably in preparation for tree planting which in years to come will change this area considerably, hopefully, with the right mix of trees, not for the worse.

| From Inchrory I walked up Glen Builg, a very pretty area, and found a good pitch near the north end of the loch where I managed to dry out most of my gear between light showers and after dinner and many cups of tea retired to bed early with my knees still suffering from yesterday.
