The day started windy with blustery showers but good sunny intervals and easier walking, as the rain had softened the moss, made a pleasant start to the day.

A rough heathery walk over wild and deserted hills brought me to a shooting hut which made an ideal brew stop and gave some respite from the wind which was very strong on the tops.

It was rather an unpleasant walk for the couple of miles up the A939 into strong wind and rain before the shower cleared and I tried to find the 'Military Road' marked on the map.

It has obviously been a long time since this was used by the military or anyone else, but I followed a vague line through the heather, finding a Grouse's nest this time, before it did develop into a track. |

A short road walk to Dunearn Lodge where there were a lot of gulls, not sure what type, I am not very good on gulls! Then back to more wild land.

When the track reached the Leonach Burn I was suprised by a beautiful gorge, with rather depleted waterfalls. |

If I had looked at the map with my glasses on I would have known it was here, but that would have spoiled the surprise! |

My route then took me over the hills to the River Findhorn and Drynachan Lodge. This is obviously a good fishing area with well kept river banks and very nice fishing bothys

A steep road up through the trees brought me to the track to Meur Tuath and a good shooting bothy where I stopped for a brew. It was a beautiful spot so, although rather exposed to the wind, I pitched near the bothy where I could cook and eat in comfort. |
