Day 25 : Glen Ernan to Suie

Tuesday 29th May 22.3km 965m ascent 1 Corbett

I think it rained all night, there was plenty of water about, and it definitely rained all day! A nice damp walk on a good track past a very smart bothy beside a small fishing? lake where I met the gamekeeper putting out medicated grit for the grouse, and complaining about the weather!

The track continued round to Long Moss, where I sheltered during a particularly heavy downpour in a ruined cottage, before climbing towards Dun Muir. The lunch hut at the head of Allt na Caillich where I was thinking of stopping for lunch was locked, so I struggled up the path into the cloud to Dun Muir.

Visibility was terrible when I reached the bealach, combined with wind and rain but I thought ‘what the hell’ and went on to Carn Mòr . I had forgotten the giant peat hags between Dun Muir and Carn Mòr and they appeared like mini mountains in the mist as I wound my way through to the soggy plateau where I managed to find the trig point before retracing my steps to the bealach and taking the very steep path down beside the Ladder Burn.

I had not been here before and was very impressed with the path, must go back again when the weather is better, I presume that this path is the ladder the hills are named after.

There was no wind at Ladderfoot but the rain continued on the path, now a LRT, to the River Livet where I pitched beside one of the ruined houses and listened to the rain on the tent.
